ABOUT OUR CREATIVE GENIUS Candy Richey

|
Candy Richey has been providing marketing materials and services for clients since 1975. She acquired her skills through many years of experience, specialized training, and frequent seminars and workshops. Marketing is a family business. Her parents published a weekly newspaper in Garden Grove, Candy and her sister Melody and two brothers Dev and Shawn were all a major part of her parents business, and all followed in their parents footsteps. “We had the best training available. Dad could produce the most intricate pencil layouts I’ve ever seen, we could typeset directly from his layouts and they were always right on,” she said. “Mom is an artist, of the finest type. However, Dad constantly coerced her into creating product art for his projects.” In those days digital photography, copy machines and other technology that we take for granted today were nonexistent. Producing graphics for clients involved a lot of hand work and was based on basic art principles. That is the environment in which Candy grew up. She and sister Melody even took a marketing class in high school and ended up doing much of the teaching. In Washington State Candy worked with Lower Columbia Community College in training graphic arts students in work placement with her newspaper, the Valley Bugler. The Valley Bugler was created when the local daily newspaper bought, and promptly killed off, all of the weekly newspapers, some over 100 years old. In speaking with local businesses, they all voiced the opinion that a monthly publication would be the most beneficial to their business marketing plans, and the Bugler was born. “We created it to promote our photography and ad agency businesses, but we got too successful,” Candy laughed. Eight years later, they sold the Bugler and moved to Claremore in November of 2007. Now operating Wooden Nickel Marketing, she continues with her twin passions of Marketing / Public Relations with Photography. Being able to provide complete marketing services for local businesses means more control over the final output. Some of her skills are listed below.
